book_rekindle_romance.jpgRekindling the Romance
We have found "Rekindling the Romance", written by Dennis and Barbara Rainey, to be very useful.

The book is divided into two sections, one for each spouse to read in order to gain a fresh perspective on what the other needs and how they define romance and love. For husbands it is great to be reminded that their wives truly need to be ministered to in practical ways in order for them to believe that they are valuable for more than just sexual intimacy. On the other hand, wives need to know that their men are often bombarded with sexual temptation through the course of the day or week. This can build tension in the life of the husband and sexual release through an intimate encounter with his wife enables much of that tension to be removed.

In order for a marriage to be strengthened both husbands and wives need to see God's perspective on their spouses' needs and then trust God to show ways to minister to those needs. It is not 'unmanly' for a husband to discover ways to love his wife in practical ways. And, it is not "unwomanly" for the wife to discover various ways to be create sensuous romantic encounters with her man. A husband shows godliness when he takes the time to serve his wife around the home and in the family context. A wife shows godliness when she gives herself in serving her man in the realm of sexual intimacy. Wholesome sexuality and holiness are not mutually exclusive because God created man and woman physical beings, which includes sexuality, as well as spiritual.
Now there's a balance! - Bill S.

the_gift_of_sex.jpgThe Gift Of Sex
This book by Clifford and Joyce Penner is another great book dealing with the sexual relationship between husbands and wives. Discussions of our anatomy from the clinical perspective are well covered, but it does not end there. Readers will learn that God invites us to discover the sexual aspects of our lives in the context of the whole marriage relationship. We need to be sure to work on, with God's direction, our emotional and spiritual bonds. This is what the Penners call 'A Total Person Relationship' described as follows:

Getting in tune with each other or meshing each other's worlds is a total-person process. It is becoming "one flesh" as the Hebrews saw it - uniting spirits, emotions and bodies. All three are necessary to a satisfying relationship. Sex that is just a union of physical bodies cannot be a satisfying communion experience. God intended sexual intercourse to be much more than just physical release. When total togetherness is missing, trouble usually ensues! (p.118)

The Penners pay special attention at the beginning of the book to teach how the sexual relationship between Christian husbands and wives reflects the intimate relationship between Christ and His bride, the Church, as found in Ephesians, chapter 5. There is to be mutual love, respect and submission in our relationship on all levels.

On page 202 in the book there is a helpful chart that shows how to work at developing the total person relationship. It is well worth checking out and putting the effort into implementation.

Readers will also find plenty of clinical information in the book along with suggestions on how to encourage 'discovery' of the wonderful gift from God. Be courageous and take the time, praying for God to open your soul to the liberties He has made available.- Bill S.

intimacy_ignited.jpgIntimacy Ignited
This book by Dillow and Pintusis a refreshing approach to a wonderful, yet often overlooked portion of God's Word...the Song Of Solomon. The way this book is set up facilitates a comfortable manner by which to be creatively informed of God's perspective on the truly intimate details of married sexual love. Reading portions of this book is a blessing in setting the stage for a physically romantic encounter. The writings help to set the tone for more freedom of sexual expression that can grow as the married lovers learn that God's Word encourages a healthy form of 'erotic' love.

Solomon, in this expressive book, reveals the Wisdom of God that enables married couples to revel in the 'gift' of pleasure that God has richly given as an integral part of the marriage relationship. A key theme in Intimacy Ignited, as noted by the authors, is the idea that it is God's intent that we be ?Servant Lovers? in contrast to ?Selfish Lovers?. This concept cuts right to the heart of a man's treatment of his wife and the wife's treatment of her husband. This truth naturally relates to all areas of marriage, yet we might not be aware that God intends application of this principle to sexual love within the marriage. For example, ?Servant Lovers give themselves permission to extend and receive passion, whereas Selfish Lovers remain stuck in their old ways of thinking and acting.? (p.34)

The authors work through the Song Of Solomon, using the key sections showing the relationship between Solomon and his bride. Each section is presented as the biblical text portrays and is followed by an interpretation, based on God's Word and Hebrew culture. Then comes opportunity for both husband and wife to learn some application, including written prayers which can be used to direct our hearts to our Father who created us and knows fully how to promote growth in our sexual experiences in the context of unselfish servant hood.

In the book, Intimacy Ignited, you will find that Song of Solomon teaches: ?Wisdom, Passion, Explicit Sexual instruction, Romance, Honesty, and Inspiration to ignite intimacy in your marriage.? (p.24)

Since God's inspired Word reveals such wonderful instruction it will bless your marriage to study, pray for understanding and courage to implement and then let the Lord lead you to His sense of liberty. - Bill S.

intended_for_pleasure.jpgIntended For Pleasure, Third Edition
This book by Ed and Gaye Wheat was the first Christian sexual intimacy book we read as a couple. It has served as a primer for us teaching in solid way that God indeed intends the sexual experience to be enjoyed by a husband and wife.

Right at the outset the Wheats remind the reader that a loving relationship is the foundation for a satisfying sex life within marriage. A loving relationship, based on the example Christ showed in giving Himself sacrificially, builds a secure basis for growth in every aspect of married life; choosing to love one's spouse through agape love is what really works. ?Love, in essence, is that deliberate act of giving one's self to another, so that the other person constantly receives enjoyment. Love gives, and love's richest reward comes when the object of love responds to the gift of one's self. If a man and wife so give themselves for each other, each will have a sense of completeness and contentment.?(p.33)

With a sense of God's perspective on His intentions for pleasure, along with the foundation of a loving relationship within the marriage, the Wheats then build the framework. They deal with the physiological aspects of male and female anatomy, techniques for physically fulfilling the one flesh relationship, and some specific issues that may be problem areas for both men and women.

Family planning information is also included, as well as concerns about having sex while pregnant. Sex in the senior years is covered. There is also a section of questions and answers that is worth perusing.

Intended for Pleasure is an excellent resource to get the newlyweds started on the right track and it is well worth the read for those who have been married longer. Enjoy!- Bill S.

Even though I did not purchase anything during this visit to your website, I just wanted you to know how blessed I feel by stumbling across it. You've answered many questions that have plagued my young marriage and opened the door for some serious and Biblical discussion between my husband and myself. I am so grateful that you are so thorough and have given me a place to browse that isn't... well... 'worldly'. Thank you.

Thanks! I have told a ton of friends about you guys. Your site has a better feel then most of the other Christian sites out there...
